TechnologyTECHNOLOGY AND PRODUCTSOneLight has developed a color-programmable light engine that instantly provides any desired mix of wavelength (color) and intensity of illumination. Unlike current light sources, OneLight's spectrally programmable light engine (SPLE) is a computer-controlled light source that can instantly change color and brightness - providing currently unattainable contrast, intensity, purity and range of color. As a stand-alone system, the SPLE can be integrated as an OEM module, allowing customers to program the light engine to perform according to their specific application requirements. OneLight's Spectra product line incorporates the SPLE, a module integrating the light source, wavelength selection and power supply. It not only replaces conventional light sources, shutters and filter wheels or filter changers, but also expensive optical filters as well. With unlimited possible wavelength output profiles, our Spectrally Programmable Light Engine technology eliminates the need to buy many standard or custom light source filters, since it has the functionality of many thousands of optical filters built in. Light from the lamp in the SPLE is optically separated to produce a "rainbow" spectrum, which shines onto an array of mirrors formed on an integrated circuit. The computer-controlled mirrors can be switched on and off at high speed to change the color distribution reflected from the mirror array. This "tuned light" can be used as the illumination source for many instrument applications, including clinical chemistry and immunoassay systems, as well as for microplate and microarray readers used in proteomics and genomics. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTYOneLight has four issued US patents for its digital light technology and has a number of additional patent applications on file. The company believes its intellectual property portfolio provides important competitive advantages and barriers to entry for competitors. OneLight has gone to great expense to ensure that the intellectual property underpinning the product development areas is sound and provides significant protection for investors. The company has filed US patents and has filed internationally under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), and in selected national jurisdictions where markets justify it. In addition to patents protecting OneLight intellectual property, the company has developed a significant body of source code, software algorithms and scientific research related to color measurement and color management, as well as mechanical and optical designs. These trade secrets give the company a significant development potential for key medical and life science product applications that will drive future growth. OneLight will consider licensing applications for its technologies in markets outside its main focus of life science and medical device development.
